When our minds are racing with thoughts our bodies follow.
The heart starts beating a bit faster, our stomach starts churning.
The restlessness starts to squeeze through, in our hands, shoulders and whole posture.
There is, at times, a picture of defeat even before the spiraling thoughts look to anchor into truth.
Our nervous system dances the dance of doubt, anxiety or lack, and we begin little by little to feel scared, anticipating worst case scenarios.
Our overthinking turns into overwhelm. But there is an invisible pause between what takes our attention and what needs to happen, what course of action we decide to take.
There is time, even if it's limited or in abundance.
There is choice even if you can't fully sense it yet.
Give yourself the chance to take that pause.
Breathe with your body and your thoughts.
Sense where safety and certainty can lie. Even if it doesn't feel palpable or in your proximity, you can begin to cultivate safety within.
Assess your surroundings, and if it's safe enough, tell that to your body with each breath.
Acknowledge the churning, the heart beating fast and your pulse going up. Feel the connection between your feet and the floor beneath them.
This is the beginning of leaving doubt to feel your agency.
You might not have all the control but you have more room than you think to find what can look like a solution and start testing it out.
That fear of failure, that doubt creeping in, is a reminder that what you are about to try, or change, is important for you. Thank it for trying to protect you and move forward, one step at a time. One attempt at a time as you go through testing possibilities out.
You are now directing the dance, working alongside your body, breath and mind. You are safe enough. Capable enough.
You got this.
